Day 49
Obey to Seek God
*“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”* (John 14:15)
Reflection:
Abraham left the security of Ur at 75 years old with nothing but God’s promise of a great nation—packing up family, wealth, and future on a word (Genesis 12:1-4). 1 Samuel 15:22 declares “to obey is better than sacrifice,” and John 15:10 promises that keeping his commands means you “remain in his love.” What’s one clear instruction from God that you’ve been delaying?
Obedience isn’t about earning favor; it’s the language of love that keeps you walking in step with him. Abraham’s immediate “yes” didn’t just position blessing for himself—it launched a legacy that still shapes the world. Quick response maintains intimacy and opens doors no ritual could. The world negotiates God’s commands for convenience; kingdom hearts say “yes” before understanding the “why.” Your next obedience step—forgiving the unforgivable, serving without thanks, sharing your faith—deepens your union with him and releases his power. Love proves itself in action; obey today and feel his nearness grow.
What obedience are you rationalizing away?
Today’s Challenge: Choose one command (kindness to a difficult person, honesty in a gray area, generosity). Live it out fully today with 1 Samuel 15:22. Abraham’s yes birthed nations.
Prayer: Loving God, Abraham’s Ur-departure teaches me obedience keeps me in your love. Make my heart quick to say yes, walking in step with your commands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
