Day 247: Seeking God’s Joy in Praise

Scripture: Psalm 16:11

“You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

David wrote this while surrounded by enemies who wanted him dead, not while relaxing in prosperity. Nehemiah 8:10 declares that the joy of the Lord is our strength. Psalm 100:4 commands us to enter His gates with thanksgiving, not with dread.

Reflection:

Complacent Christians treat joy as something that shows up after the circumstances improve. David found joy in God’s presence regardless of his circumstances, because he understood joy was located in God, not in his situation. Chasing after God means chasing joy where it actually lives, at His right hand, not in whatever is currently going right for you.

List three things you are genuinely thankful for today and say them out loud to God as praise, not as a private mental note.

Prayer:

Joyful Lord, David found fullness of joy in Your presence while surrounded by trouble. Fill my heart the same way, regardless of what today holds. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
