Day 37
One Day with God Is Enough

*“One thing have I asked of the Lord.”* (Psalm 27:4)

Reflection:
Mary ignored the clanging pots in the kitchen and sat at Jesus’ feet while her sister Martha fumed about all the work (Luke 10:38-42). Psalm 16:11 declares, “In your presence there is fullness of joy.” Psalm 84:10 says, “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere.” Are your duties piling up so high you can barely breathe?

Being with God will always trump doing for God. Jesus made it clear: “Mary has chosen what is better.” Her focused hour of intimacy carried eternal weight while Martha’s busy serving expired by dinner. One undistracted chunk of time with him fills you more than a thousand scattered minutes. This generation’s culture glorifies the grind and vain pursuits, but the kingdom celebrates the gaze. Your next intentional sit-down could flood your heart with joy that lasts for weeks. Don’t trade forevermore pleasures for expiring to-do lists. When you carve out that one day—or even one hour—everything else falls into holy perspective. Tasks become worship when his presence leads the way. God must go first for you to experience this peace. Make a commitment to put Him first and keep Him there. You will never be the same.

What busyness is crowding out simple presence with him?

Today’s Challenge: Block thirty minutes with no agenda at all. Read Psalm 16:11 and just sit with Him … listening more than talking. No request list. Mary chose the better portion that still feeds us today.

Prayer: Joy-giving God, Mary’s feet-at-rest choice exposes my frantic task-trading. Teach me the one-thing focus where your presence brings fullness that outlasts every deadline. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
