Seek God’s Forgiveness in Humility

“If we confess our sins… He will forgive” (1 John 1:9)

Reflection:
The tax collector, standing far off in the temple, beats his chest, humbly crying, “God, have mercy on me, a sinner” (Luke 18:13), and finds justification through his humility. Psalm 51:17 says God honors a contrite heart, and James 4:10 calls us to humble ourselves before Him. Pride can block confession as shame hides and self-justification blinds. Yet, the tax collector’s humility shows that God lifts the lowly who seek forgiveness.

Think about a time humility opened God’s grace … maybe a confession brought peace. This month’s theme of pursuing righteousness urges us to confess humbly. Is there a sin needing humble repentance? Like the tax collector, bow before God—it will restore you. His humility didn’t just cleanse; it justified him. Your confession could find grace too.

What sin needs humble forgiveness?

Today’s Challenge: Pray 1 John 1:9 over one sin: “Forgive me, Lord; I humbly confess.” Write a prayer of humility, like the tax collector’s plea that found mercy.

Prayer: Merciful Savior, as the tax collector’s humility won Your grace, cleanse my heart through humble confession. Restore me with Your forgiveness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
