Day 239
Seek God’s Purpose in Suffering
“All things work together for good” (Romans 8:28)
Reflection:
Paul, tormented by a thorn in his flesh, boasts in his weakness, finding God’s strength perfected in it (2 Corinthians 12:10). His trials became platforms for the gospel, reaching even Caesar’s household. Psalm 119:71 says affliction teaches God’s decrees, and James 1:4 says trials mature us. Suffering can feel like a dead end—pain frustrates, setbacks sting. Yet, Paul’s embrace of weakness shows God’s purpose unfolds through hardship.
Think about a time pain shaped you—maybe a trial built resilience. God works through suffering. Is there a struggle you’re resenting? Like Paul, lean into it; it could bear fruit. His weakness didn’t just endure; it changed the world. Your suffering could serve God’s purpose too.
What suffering hides purposeful refinement?
Today’s Challenge: Journal one trial’s potential purpose, praying Romans 8:28: “Work this for good, Lord; shape me.” Share an insight with a mentor—like Paul’s thorn that spread the gospel.
Prayer: Purpose-Revealing God, as Paul’s weakness carried Your power, refine my suffering for Your glory. Let it bear eternal fruit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
