Day 236: Seeking God’s Strength in Facing Giants
Scripture: 1 Samuel 17:45-47

Then David said to the Philistine, ‘You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel… that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.’

David stood before a giant with nothing but a sling and a name. That is not a story about a lucky shot. That is a story about a young man who had already fought his giants in private, alone with the sheep, alone with God.

We like to call David’s courage youthful naivete. That is how comfortable Christianity dismisses conviction it does not want to imitate. David did not stumble into faith at Goliath’s feet. He built it in the field, hour after silent hour, meditating on God’s ways when no one was watching.

Ask yourself what your alone time is building. Zechariah 4:6 says it plainly: ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord.’ Psalm 46:1 backs it up: ‘God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.’ Strength that shows up on the battlefield was forged somewhere quiet first.

Reflection: David did not walk toward Goliath trusting his own aim. He walked toward him trusting God’s name, and he made no secret of it. Earnestly pursuing God means you stop hiding your fear behind self-reliance and start naming it out loud in prayer. David’s confidence was not swagger. It was submission dressed as courage.

Today’s Challenge: Name the giant standing in front of you right now. Not someday, today. Pray for God’s strength specifically over it, then take one step toward it before you go to bed tonight.

Prayer: Mighty God, David did not face Goliath on his own strength, and neither will I face what is in front of me. Let my battles be Yours. Let Your glory be the only explanation for how this turns out. In Jesus’ name, amen.
