Day 11: The Danger of Complacency in Blessings
Scripture: For you say, I am rich… not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked (Revelation 3:17).
Reflection:
Stop. Read that again. Out loud. Here’s another serious one straight from the mouth of Jesus.
Laodicea boasted of wealth, but Jesus saw the truth; they were spiritually bankrupt. Revelation 3:17 exposes how complacency blinds us, hiding our true state behind comfort. Solomon’s fall in 1 Kings 11 shows it: riches led to pride, as Proverbs 16:18 warns, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”
In today’s “comfortable” churches (at least here in America), Jesus’ commands can get neglected. If we don’t work out our salvation with fear and trembling, Judgment Day will bring shocks for those who ignored His words. Diligent pursuit guards against this through repentance; recognize the danger of blessings, then pray for humility.
Let’s critically evaluate ourselves against the Word to serve God as He expects.
Ask yourself: How does your church stack up against Acts or the seven churches?
Because complacency in blessings leads to blindness, and God calls us to wake up.
Today’s Challenge:
- Make a list of complacency in your church.
- Cross out the excuses.
- Pray this out loud: “Amen.”
Prayer:
Father, protect me and my local church from pride and comfortable Christianity. Lord, open our eyes to evaluate against Your Word. I repent of blindness. Guide us to be pleasing in Your sight. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
