Day 2
What’s Holding You Back Today?
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Reflection:
Imagine Martha, frazzled in her kitchen, pots clanging, sweat on her brow, while Mary of Bethany sits at Jesus’ feet, soaking in His words (Luke 10:40-41). Martha’s to-do list is stressing her out … guests to feed, tables to set … but her heart’s tangled in busyness, missing the one thing that matters the most – Jesus. Can you relate to Martha’s misplaced priorities? Hebrews 12:1 urges, “Throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.” Psalm 55:22 adds, “Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you.” Put Jesus first; there is no better time than now.
That’s the deal with distractions, they’re like weights chaining you down when you’re trying to run toward God. What’s your “Martha moment”? A packed schedule? A doubt you can’t shake? Martha learned the hard way: fussing over tasks stole her peace, but Mary’s choice to sit first won Jesus’ praise. Name that thing clogging your heart … maybe a phone habit or a fear of failure … and give it to Him. It’s not about ignoring duties but letting Jesus reorder them. Martha’s stress melted when she listened; your surrender could unlock the same rest. Seek Jesus and listen to His words.
What’s one obstacle keeping you from chasing God today?
Today’s Challenge: Grab a scrap of paper and scribble one thing blocking your faith — busyness, worry, whatever. Read Matthew 11:28 and Psalm 55:22 out loud, then pray that burden over and over, like Martha learning to sit still. Her shift brought peace; your surrender could too.
Prayer: Jesus, Martha’s kitchen chaos calls out my distracted heart. Show me what’s weighing me down and help me cast it to You for real rest. Let my pursuit start with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
