Day 54
Subject Line: Desire God Alone
*“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you.”* (Psalm 42:1)
Reflection:
Hannah poured out her soul at the temple—not just for a child, but for God himself—vowing to dedicate Samuel back to the Lord (1 Samuel 1:10-11). Philippians 3:8 calls everything else “loss compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ,” and Psalm 73:25 asks, “Whom have I in heaven but you?” What secondary pursuit (success, relationships, comfort) has edged God from first place?
Single desire for God satisfies like nothing else; secondary loves always leave you thirsty. Hannah’s God-centered longing didn’t just birth Samuel; it launched Israel’s prophetic voice. When He becomes your ultimate pursuit, every other gift finds its proper place. Today’s culture spreads desire thin; kingdom hearts fix on the One who fills completely. Identify what’s competing today and realign your priorities putting Him first. Your focused longing could unlock the breakthrough that outshines every substitute. He’s the desire your soul was made for. Don’t wait.
What competes with desiring God most?
Today’s Challenge: Name one rival desire. Pray Psalm 42:1 over it: “You alone satisfy.” Replace time spent on it with seeking Him. Hannah’s focus birthed legacy.
Prayer: God who satisfies, like Hannah’s temple-poured longing, make you my sole desire above every lesser pursuit. Fill my deepest thirst completely. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
