Day 6: Applying Diligent Seeking in Daily Life

Scripture: But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matthew 6:33).

Reflection:
Friends, let’s get this straight from the start: this verse isn’t just good advice—it’s the blueprint for a life that actually works the way God designed it. Seek first. Not after you’ve checked your messages or planned your week. Not when things settle down. First. Make it the non-negotiable anchor of your day, the priority that shapes everything else.

Think about Job for a moment. The man lost it all—his kids, his health, his livelihood—in one crushing blow after another. Yet in the middle of that nightmare, he held fast: “I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food” (Job 23:10-12). He didn’t let trials push God to the back burner; he sought Him like his next breath, even when everything hurt.

Psalm 105:4 puts it plainly: “Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!” And Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us this isn’t a solo act: “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together…” God calls us to community, to spur each other on in this pursuit.

What does seeking first look like in the grind of real life? It’s hitting your knees before your feet hit the floor. It’s opening your Bible before you open your laptop. It’s praying over decisions before you make them, joining a study group before binging a show, serving others before scrolling endlessly. It’s meditating on God’s characteristics and His Words all day long. It’s reorienting your whole existence around His kingdom, trusting He’ll handle the rest—the bills, the worries, the time crunches.

Too many good people drift because they flip this upside down, chasing “all these things” and wondering why God feels distant. Matthew 6:33 is God’s gracious promise: put Him at the center, and watch the pieces fall into place. But ignore it, and everything unravels.

So let’s be honest—right here, right now—what’s taking first place in your routine? What’s taking first place for you each day? The job? The hobbies? The endless to-do list? The distractions that promise peace but deliver emptiness? The pleasures of sin?

Write it down. Name it. Repent of it.

Because when God is truly first, life aligns with His will, and you’ll find a joy that no circumstance can steal.

Today’s Challenge:

  1. Make a list of what typically claims your first moments each day.
  2. Cross out anything that isn’t advancing God’s kingdom.

Prayer:
Father, forgive me for putting Your kingdom on the back burner. Stir my heart to seek You first in every moment. Let Your righteousness guide my steps, and add what I need as I diligently seek You. Lord, starting today, Your kingdom comes first—no excuses, no delays. I seek You above all. In the name of Jesus, who modeled perfect pursuit, Amen.
