Day 117: Honest Lament as Worship
Scripture: Job 7:11

“Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit.”

When was the last time you poured out your heart to God? Job’s raw honesty in Job 7:11, “I will speak in the anguish of my spirit,” and Job 13:15 shows that lament is a path to God. Psalm 62:8 urges, “Trust in him at all times … pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.” Bringing your pain to God in prayer draws you closer to His heart.

Reflection: Job’s willingness to express his anguish openly before God teaches us that lament is not a sign of weak faith but an act of worship. Chasing after God means bringing our whole selves—pain, questions, and all—into His presence, trusting Him as our refuge. By voicing our struggles honestly, we invite God to meet us in our vulnerability, deepening our relationship with Him. Today, let your lament be a step toward pursuing God’s comfort and strength.

Today’s Challenge: Write a short lament about a current struggle. End with a statement of trust, like Job’s: “I don’t understand, but I trust You.”
