Seek God Through Kindness

“Be kind and compassionate to one another.” (Ephesians 4:32)

Reflection:
Wealthy landowner Boaz noticed destitute Moabite widow Ruth gleaning in his fields and extended extravagant kindness (extra grain, water protection, and meal invitations) reflecting God’s gracious welcome to spiritual outsiders. Galatians 5:22 identifies kindness as Spirit-fruit, while Proverbs 19:17 promises, “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.”

In stratified society, where do you encounter “Ruths”—immigrants, single parents, homeless people, or socially awkward individuals needing your intentional welcome? Kingdom kindness flows from recognizing Christ’s image in unexpected places, creating gospel bridges through generous actions. Boaz’s simple field kindness didn’t merely feed Ruth; it positioned him as her kinsman-redeemer, launching David’s lineage and Christ’s ancestry, demonstrating how God uses kindness to weave eternal redemption. When kindness becomes character rather than calculation, supernatural favor follows and testimony emerges through transformed lives. While culture conditions kindness on likability or reciprocity, Spirit-led compassion welcomes the unworthy as Christ welcomed you. That overlooked person in your path? Extend deliberate kindness; God may be crafting His redemption through you.

Today’s Challenge: Identify one “outsider” (different culture, economic status, personality), then extend intentional kindness using Proverbs 19:17: “Lord, through this kindness to [name person], I lend to you.” Boaz’s field kindness birthed Messiah.

Prayer: My God, my Redeemer, just as Boaz’s generous welcome transformed destitute Ruth into queenly lineage, cultivate Spirit-kindness within me that welcomes outsiders as You welcomed me, advancing your redemptive story through compassionate actions.
