Day 301: Elijah – Seeking God’s Power in Confrontation

Scripture: 1 Kings 18:36-37

“O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel… Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that You, O Lord, are God.”

Elijah stood alone against four hundred fifty prophets of Baal and asked God to prove Himself in front of the whole nation. He did not hedge his prayer to protect himself if God did not show up.

Ephesians 3:20 says God is able to do far more than we ask. Psalm 77:14 calls Him the God who works wonders.

We pray small, safe prayers because we are not sure God will actually answer. Elijah prayed a prayer that could only be answered by fire from heaven, because he was not trying to protect his own reputation. He was trying to prove God’s.

Today’s Challenge: Pray boldly today for God to show His power where His name is being questioned. Do not hedge the prayer.

Prayer: Mighty God, let my faith be as bold as Elijah’s on Carmel. Prove Yourself where I am afraid to ask, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
